life.

I’ve spent the past decade in a rollercoaster of traumatic experiences, but also healing ones. All of which I’ve learnt lessons from and have grown immensely. From being in two abusive relationships (back-to-back) to being the CEO of Empathy + Me, resilience, perseverance and faith keep my vision towards the future. Decisions in my life are always made based on faith, intuition, and emotions. Throughout my healing journey I’ve accumulated a tool belt filled with resources and supports to help manage the anxiety, depression, and C-PTSD from a multitude of counsellors, women’s groups and community events. I found the most healing through being vocal about my experiences and sharing them publicly, to help others realize they’re not alone on Instagram.

I believe that introspection (via counselling, therapy, journalling, silence, and solitude) is beneficial to healing trauma at the root, as it has been for me. One’s healing journey is complex and subjective, so it’s important to always be patient with yourself, and not compare your journey to someone else’s. Raising your self-awareness is key to growth though, so if you’re ever triggered sit with it, work through it, and heal from it. Throughout all of my experiences, a consistent message I’ve received is to always put my happiness before anything and anyone. My outlook is about happiness first. You have to find joy in all that you do to live a fulfilling life.

business.

Soul-calling’s are rare occurrences and you need to be aligned, aware and listening to make sure they don’t pass you by. I woke up one morning with a deep sense of urgency to create a platform for trauma survivors to share their stories, based on my own healing journey. The context and information flowed right onto the paper, down to the very minute details, and I knew this idea wasn’t from me alone. This is how Empathy + Me was born in August 2018.

The first year was spent doing a lot of research and development, deciding which ideas were more feasible and absorbing masses of information. Expanding my knowledge on all facets of business was key for me to have a solid mindset, and ensure the success of The Empathy Crate. I thank BizStart for that; a 6 month Business Incubator program. In October 2019, the soft launch of the handmade self-care products was successful and I prepped for the official e-commerce launch and holiday market season. Things have been going well, I absolutely love pouring my love and energy into the candles, salt soaks, and aroma sprays for people to experience moments of healing and introspection. Keep an eye out and stay updated, on future, workshops, events and product launches this coming year.

2020 is going to hit different.
